Mersin is a city located in the south-east of Turkey, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the Mersin Gulf. The capital of the province of the same name. The total area is 15,853 sq.km, the local population is 900,000 people. Mersin is one of the largest ports in the country. The city offers a variety of holidays - beach, sightseeing, shopping.
Tourists began to appear in Mersin quite recently. Due to its important economic importance for Turkey, for a long time, all attention has been paid to the growth and development of the industrial and commercial sector. And it was quite justified, since the piers and docks of the port of Mersin have a capacity of 3,800 vessels per year.
It was not easy to combine such an industrial orientation with tourism: it was like turning Chelyabinsk into a tourist center, for example. But the Turks are masters of tourism for that, that even such a place could be made attractive for tourism.
The nearest airport is in Adana at a distance of 70 kilometers. But this does not greatly affect the attendance, since Mersin receives ships from about a hundred other international ports.
In 2013, the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the new international airport in Chukurova took place, and it is assumed that at the beginning of 2017, direct flights to Mersin from Moscow and other capitals of the world will provide a constant flow of tourists to the city and its surroundings.
